R U OK? Day: A Reminder to Keep the Conversation Going

R U OK? Day, observed on 14th September 2023, is a national day of action in Australia, emphasising the importance of mental well-being and the power of communication. This year, the focus is on the question, "Are they really ok?"

At Altus Traffic, we understand the significance of mental health and the role each one of us plays in supporting our colleagues, friends, and family.

Claire Agnew, Head of People at Altus Traffic, emphasises, "Suicide Awareness Day and RUOK Day are national days of action to remind everyone that everyday is the day to ask. But one day isn't enough and we are focussed on our teams asking, 'are you ok?' everyday... Our teams will be out in the field this week as a reminder to keep the conversation going..."

We are fortunate to partner with our Employee Assistance Program, TELUS Health, who continually provides invaluable support and resources to our team. As part of their commitment, TELUS Health has developed informative flyers, such as the "Knowing the Signs" poster attached below, to aid in recognizing and addressing mental health concerns.

In addition to our partnership with TELUS Health, we also recognise the incredible support provided by the MATES organisation. MATES has been a pillar in the construction industry, offering tailored mental health programs and resources. Their dedication to suicide prevention and their commitment to fostering a culture of open communication about mental well-being is commendable. Their initiatives, ranging from awareness training to direct support, have been instrumental in changing the narrative around mental health in the construction sector. Check out their website for more information and resources.

Let's take a moment to check in with those around us, not just today but every day.
