Altus Group's 2025 Year in Review
What We Got Involved In — And Why It Matters
If you work in traffic management in Australia, you already know: the industry doesn't stand still. Standards shift, technology evolves, and the conversation about how we keep people safe on and around our roads keeps getting more complex.
In 2025, we made a deliberate choice to be part of those conversations — not from the sidelines, but from the table where decisions get made. Here's what some of that looked like.
Turning Up Where It Counts
We've always believed that the companies doing the work should have a say in how the industry is shaped. That's why we stayed actively involved with Roads Australia, the Australian Flexible Pavement Association (AfPA), and the Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA) throughout the year.
CEO Ben Marsonet and Britt O’Dwyer, our GM WA and Vice President of the TMAA, both spoke at the AfPA National Conference — Future Ready Roads — contributing to discussions on infrastructure resilience and how we deliver road projects more safely.
Britt also served as Chair of the TMAA WA State Division and as a Representative on the TMAA National Board. In practice, that meant Altus had a direct line into strategic industry reform conversations — on training harmonisation, prequalification standards, and procurement — at both a state and national level.
Our Chief Commercial Officer James Pennings is representing Altus on the TMAA Policy and Advocacy Committee and attended key forums including the Compass IoT Track Day and Highways AU | Mobility Live, where the focus was on smarter, safer network operations.
Pushing The Digital Conversation Forward
Our Head of Digital, Beth Lilford, had a busy year on the speaking circuit. She represented Altus at the TfNSW In Motion Annual Industry Event, Gateway to Innovate (TfNSW), ITS Australia's Roads, Tolling and Tech 2025 conference, and the Australasian College of Road Safety Innovation Forum.
Beth also contributed to the TfNSW Working Near Traffic Working Group — a space where emerging tech meets the reality of what actually works on the ground. It's one thing to talk about digital transformation; it's another to make sure it translates to better safety outcomes for the people doing the job.
Giving The Frontline A Platform
One of the moments we were most proud of in 2025 had nothing to do with executives or boardrooms. Sam Loprete, a Traffic Controller with Altus Traffic SA and the 2024 TMAA National Traffic Controller of the Year, spoke at the TMAA and Seymour Whyte event presenting the Traffic Controller Survey Results.
Hearing Sam share his frontline experience — what works, what doesn't, how the industry looks from the road — was a reminder that the best insights often come from the people closest to live traffic. If we're serious about improving this industry, those voices need to be heard.
Joining The Broader Conversation
Beyond industry forums, we looked for ways to contribute to the wider public discussion. Ben Marsonet was invited to appear on Sky News to talk about the night economy and its reliance on professional traffic management — a connection that doesn't always get the attention it deserves.
We also published in Roads & Infrastructure Magazine and participated in the International Road Federation's Navigating the Future of Traffic forum, bringing Australian perspectives into the global conversation.
Backing Road Safety With Action
As a principal partner of National Road Safety Week, we used our national presence to amplify safety messaging across the country. Ben Marsonet participated as a panel member at the official NSW Government launch held at the Sydney Opera House, alongside road safety leaders from across Australia, while many other leaders attended events throughout the country.
Road safety isn't something we just talk about in tenders and proposals. It's central to everything we do, and partnering with initiatives like this is one way we try to back that up.
Looking Ahead
None of this is about ticking boxes or collecting logos. When we show up at a conference, sit on a committee, or put one of our people on a stage, it's because we think the industry is better when the companies doing the work are also helping to shape it.
That was true in 2025, and it'll be true again in 2026.
