Road Worker Safety: Our Commitment and Actions

Portable Site Alarm deployed, ensuring road work crews are alerted to any incursions or breaches, providing crucial time to reach safety.

At Altus Traffic, we recognise the critical importance of safeguarding our road workers. Recent insights shared in the "Roads Australia - Road Worker Safety Industry Guideline" underline the significant risks our frontline staff face every day. This knowledge drives our commitment to not only meet but exceed safety standards in every project we undertake.

THE RISKS AT HAND

Data reveals that road workers are frequently exposed to high-risk situations caused by speeding, non-compliance with signage, and even direct abuse from the public. Such behaviours not only jeopardise the safety of our workers but also the general public. Over 1,100 industry practitioners surveyed by NTRO have voiced that speeding and disobedience towards road signs are predominant threats, stressing an urgent need for action.

Further alarming statistics from Austroads show that each year worksites have on average, 18 fatal worksite crashes, along with 245 serious injury crashes. This alarming data is a call to action for everyone in the industry. It is evident that while procedural breaches and unauthorised site entries are common, the more dangerous threats are vehicular in nature - speeding and ignoring traffic controls.

OUR PROTECTIVE MEASURES

In response to these challenges, Altus Traffic is spearheading several initiatives:

  • Enhanced Training: We are rolling out comprehensive safety training for all employees, focusing on situational awareness and emergency response strategies.

  • Advanced Technology: Integrating the latest technology in workzone digitisation and traffic management to ensure real-time responses and enhanced communication between teams.

  • Community Awareness Campaigns: Partnering with local communities and authorities to educate the public on the dangers of not adhering to roadwork signage and speed limits.

  • Policy Advocacy: Working closely with industry leaders and policymakers to advocate for stricter enforcement of traffic laws in and around workzones.

At Altus Traffic, our commitment to enhancing the safety of road workers is our priority. The strategies we implement are informed by rigorous data analysis and guided by industry best practices as outlined in the "Roads Australia - Road Worker Safety Industry Guideline". Our approach goes beyond compliance, aiming to set new standards in safety.

We understand that the road to safety is a continuous journey, requiring persistent dedication and adaptability. Altus Traffic pledges to remain at the forefront of safety innovations, constantly seeking ways to improve and ensure that every road worker returns home safely each day.
