Unlocking Australia’s Night-Time Economy

Altus Group CEO, Ben Marsonet, recently joined Ross Greenwood on Business Weekend (Sky News) alongside NSW Productivity Commissioner Peter Achterstraat to discuss one of the most underestimated drivers of economic growth: the night.

For many industries, particularly roadworks, infrastructure delivery and traffic management —  night-time isn’t downtime. It’s when the real productivity uplift happens. Reduced congestion, larger working windows, safer operating environments and faster project delivery all mean that the hours after dark carry enormous potential.

At Altus Traffic, that potential has been central to our journey. Over time, we have grown into a nationwide operation supporting major road and infrastructure projects across Australia.  Today, much of our work takes place while the rest of the country sleeps.

While some wonder whether people really want to work at night, our experience tells another story.
Our recruitment pipeline has never been stronger, attracting people from all walks of life who are ready to embrace flexible hours that suit their needs and contribute to projects that keep Australia moving.

As Ben Marsonet explains, “You can unlock an awful lot of an evening. There's less disruption and less interference… we're definitely a big believer in running around the clock and running very hard at it.”  For some, Australia’s night-time economy is a growth engine hiding in plain sight; for Altus, it’s already switched on.
