Altus Group's Fleet of Mobile Barriers and Attenuators

The Altus Group, adhering to the Road Worker Safety Guidelines, sets a high standard with its fleet and equipment for risk mitigation. When the Altus Group’s elimination and isolation treatments from Appendix C of the guidelines are not feasible, the next level of safety measures involves substitution treatments like mobile barriers and truck attenuators. These options should be evaluated for their alignment with Safe System objectives to ensure a zero-harm outcome.

The Altus Group's extensive national fleet supports clients' work while prioritising the highest level of compliance and safety for workers and the community with over 130 Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs). Altogether, the Altus Group of companies possess approx. 2200 assets, including Traffic Management Vehicles, Drop Deck (Cone Trucks), Light TMA TL2, and TMA TL3 vehicles, demonstrating our strong commitment to road worker safety.

SUBSTITUTION TREATMENTS WITH MOBILE BARRIERS AND TRUCK ATTENUATORS

Substitution treatments reduce the likelihood and severity of impacts through the use of mobile barriers and truck attenuators. They protect workers and motorists from collisions with stationary or slow-moving trucks in work zones, and they are mounted on shadow vehicles to shield work crews from potential hazards.

The TMA’s in the Altus Group fleet include:

  • TL2 TMAs: MASH Tested and Approved, these TMAs are designed for roads with speeds up to 80 km/h, these attenuators absorb impact energy and safely redirect vehicles, reducing crash severity. They are ideal for local roads and lower-speed highways.

  • TL3 TMAs: MASH Tested and Approved, these TMAs offer enhanced protection for higher-speed roadways, typically with speeds exceeding 100 km/h. They are designed to withstand greater impact forces, ensuring safety for road workers and motorists in high-speed traffic conditions.

  • Light TMA TL2 Models: These smaller attenuators reduce traffic congestion and increase mobility and manouverability on worksites.

Traffic Management Vehicles are also used to deploy visible signals and signs along roadsides, effectively warning drivers, barricading unsafe zones, regulating traffic flow at construction sites, and establishing temporary areas with specific speed limits, ultimately mitigating congestion, enhancing safety, and reducing accident risks.

For Australian workzones, achieving safer roads involves adopting and leveraging advanced safety solutions like mobile barriers and truck attenuators. The Altus Group Fleet is tailored to support our clients' works while prioritising the highest level of compliance and safety for our workers, clients' workers, and the communities in which we live and operate.
