Altus Group Showcases Innovation at InMotion 2025
Transport for NSW hosted its annual industry conference, InMotion, bringing together government leaders and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of transport in NSW. This year’s event attracted representatives from across the sector — including construction contractors, engineering firms, manufacturers, local councils, and industry bodies — creating a powerful forum for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
The conference featured key insights from NSW Government and Transport for NSW leaders on the challenges shaping the future of transport, alongside opportunities for industry to engage directly with program teams at the project Trade Fair. Central to this year’s theme was building stronger partnerships and fostering innovation across all levels of project delivery.
GATEWAY TO INNOVATE
Vanda Krikorian, Industry Insights & Engagement at Transport for NSW, presented the latest results from the Gateway to Innovate productivity trials, where Intellitag was selected as one of three innovative solutions trialled for its potential to enhance operational efficiency, productivity and safety outcomes.
We were proud to see Beth Lilford, Head of Digital at Altus Group, join this panel, moderated by Raquel Rubalcaba, Acting Deputy Secretary for Infrastructure, Projects & Engineering at Transport for NSW.
Beth shared the following insights from Altus Group’s Gateway to Innovate trial, where we introduced Intellitag, our smart digital solution for traffic management.
CHANGING PERCEPTIONS TO TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
For too long, traffic management has been perceived as a behind-the-scenes necessity — vital for safety, yet rarely recognised as a catalyst for productivity or innovation. Altus is challenging that narrative through Intellitag, transforming traffic management from routine oversight into a strategic, technology-driven capability.
As Beth powerfully stated, “It’s about proving that traffic management is more than just cones and signs — it can be strategic, tech-enabled and can deliver measurable outcomes for our infrastructure and project partners.”
This shift not only enhances operational efficiency but positions traffic management as a key enabler of smarter, faster project delivery.
FROM TECHNOLOGY TO CULTURE SHIFT
The Intellitag trial delivered more than just compliance and efficiency gains — it sparked a cultural shift. When crews understood their signage was being monitored in real time, their mindset changed. They didn’t settle for the minimum; they leaned in with pride, precision, and purpose. This shift revealed the deeper potential of digital tools: not just to streamline processes, but to elevate how people show up on site.
As Beth insightfully put it, “And that’s something we don’t talk about enough. All the planning and digital tools in the world fall over if the people delivering the work don’t feel safe, supported, and connected to the bigger picture. When innovation helps shift mindset, not just process, that’s when we unlock real productivity. Because when your frontline feels engaged, when they feel looked after and empowered, the ripple effects are huge.”
This is the future of infrastructure delivery — where technology drives not only performance, but pride.
KEEPING MOMENTUM IN INNOVATION
Beth reminded us that resilience is key to this journey. “We’ve proven the concepts,” she said. “Now it’s about momentum — shifting the conversation from how much does it cost? to how much are we investing? Because the cost of standing still in our industry is far greater.” That shift in mindset is critical. The Gateway to Innovate trial showed us that buy-in is just as vital as the tools themselves. We’ve got the platforms, the visibility, and most importantly, the people — so now its on us to keep the momentum going.
Beth also brought a global perspective, reflecting on her experience at the recent ‘Navigating the Future of Traffic and Transport’ summit in Athens: “One insight I’ve gained — especially after returning from Athens — is that the world is paying close attention to what we’re doing here in Australia. I went over thinking I’d find inspiration and solutions, but came home realising we’re right on pace with global leaders.”
At Altus Group, we’re proud to be at the forefront of innovation in traffic management and infrastructure delivery. Through collaboration with Transport for NSW and industry partners, we’re committed to driving safer, smarter and more productive outcomes for the future of transport in Australia.
