Media Statement - Bowral Classic Update

Bowral NSW 20 October 2024 Altus Group again reiterates our profound regret for its mistake that led to the cancellation of the Bowral Classic cycling event. We have identified through a preliminary internal review a number of key failings that saw the event incorrectly planned for the following weekend.

Having serviced this event for the previous six years, together with other important regional events organised by Yaffa Media, Altus is especially mindful of the impact this has had not just on participants and their supporters, but also the local community and businesses. The review of the weekend’s failure will ensure more robust processes are in place to ensure this will not happen again.

Altus is all about supporting local communities and creating a positive impact in the places our 6,000 team members live and work.

As an initial first step we want to demonstrate our support for the important work Yaffa Media does for regional communities, along with directly supporting the communities themselves.

The Bowral Classic has been an important event on the charity calendar, with riders and teams often participating in fundraising. More than $500,000 has been raised since 2016 and the 2024 event had commitments as of today of just over $70,000. Altus will match this amount and donate it equally among the two event charity partners: Harbison Heart & Home; and the Quest for Life Foundation.

Altus Group again apologises to organisers, participants and the local community and businesses of Bowral for the disappointing human error that forced the cancellation of this much-loved event. With the measures announced today Altus is hopeful it can restore the goodwill and trust of the local community and continue to support the Bowral Classic in the years ahead
